9 B2B E-Commerce Trends that Will Affect Your Business in 2022 – Part 3

In this three-part series, we’re looking at trends in B2B e-commerce that may affect your business in 2022. Watching e-commerce trends can help your organization make wise business decisions. In Part 1, we talked about business with buyers as consumers, customer experience in analytics, and personalized B2B pricing. In Part 2, we discussed contextualized real-time pricing, faster, easier order fulfillment, and prolonged resource shortages. In this post, we’ll discuss three more hot topics.

Trend #7. Reshoring

Offshoring is when a company contracts to produce their product overseas for sales in their home country. The opposite of that is Reshoring. Reshoring brings the production of goods back home. In the past, businesses could save money by Offshoring, but the worldwide situation is changing.

The global supply chain is not as reliable as it once was, and consumers are questioning the origin of their goods. With goods produced domestically, organizations have greater control over their supply chain and processes. The disruptions caused by COVID-19 exposed the weaknesses in globalizing logistics and manufacturing. Bringing domestic production back into play will also affect labor costs and thus pricing.

Trend #8. Remote or hybrid working

The last two years have changed the way the workforce operates, and those changes are likely to be the new normal. Businesses and employees were forced to be flexible during the restrictions of COVID-19, and many found that remote or hybrid working was actually a business and lifestyle improvement. Flexibility will continue to be necessary for the months to come.

Sales organizations must rely on omnichannel e-commerce to create a seamless buying process, whether online or offline. The versatility will allow workers to be safe and comfortable without negatively impacting the company’s profits. Research predicts that by 2025, remote working will be as prevalent as in-office work. Allowing employees to work from home will be the key to attracting talent from now on. It may also be economically advantageous to your organization. AT&T reported savings of $30 million a year in real estate alone from their work-from-home efforts.

Trend #9. Sustainability and social responsibility

As you are undoubtedly aware, millennials already make up a large portion of B2B buyers. They have the tech savvy to search out the best deals. Sustainability and social responsibility are essential to customers concerned about their future. To appeal to them and garner their business, you need to think about how to become more energy-efficient and climate-efficient as an e-commerce business. Focus on digital transformation to help create paperless processes and choose more sustainable shipping options.

It’s also important to examine your organization’s traditional processes to identify waste and inefficiency. Being a company with a conscience will appeal to today’s buyers.
