3 lifestyle practices to become a healthier entrepreneur

As anyone will tell you, it can be difficult to achieve a healthy lifestyle. This is especially true for entrepreneurs, who you will find working 14-20 hours a day with little sleep. In my early days as CEO and founder, I was definitely guilty of prioritizing my health. With pressing deadlines and quarterly goals, there was no time for a long workout or healthy meal prep.

So how do you incorporate a successful health and wellness regimen into a busy schedule? Over the years, I’ve found that by implementing the following three lifestyle changes, I feel strong and perform better, both in and out of the office.

1. Prioritize movement.

Indeed, making movement a priority may seem impossible to some. Many entrepreneurs who are overscheduled look at their calendars and feel they can’t work out unless they have an hour to kick it out at the gym. So instead, they do nothing. The truth is, if you don’t schedule and prioritize your exercises, it won’t happen. There will always be another email to check out or a direct message to respond to.

If that sounds familiar, consider replacing more permissive expectations of exercise with a commitment to moving your body every day. I, for example, found this more doable. With so many meetings and presentations, I rarely have much time to devote to exercise. Fortunately, there are several shorter types of exercise that have benefits similar to those of a longer exercise. I find value in High Intensity Interval Training (HiiT), which can often be as much as 10-20 minutes of hard exercise. Many people swear by a quick yoga session or a short walk. Whatever exercise you choose, make sure that it allows you to achieve your fitness goals in Doable and repeatable method. When you commit to moving your body every day, it will have an immediate impact on your work stress that day and a long-term impact on your overall health.

2. Create a routine.

When I first started my company, I wanted to adjust my personal schedule to the ever-changing needs and whims of work. This was especially true of eating, eating whenever I could to spare a moment, often at the end of a hectic workday. This means that I usually order takeaways at 9pm or later. Late at night, eating unscheduled food over and over again left me feeling bloated, restless, and drained of energy in the morning. As a result, my sleep was affected as well. I felt like I was constantly running on fumes. Establishing a more consistent eating routine has been an absolute game-changer for me, both personally and professionally. As entrepreneurs, we often travel for work, navigating through time zone changes and marathon working days.

If, like me, you’re having a hard time maintaining a sense of balance amid these variables, consider establishing a consistent eating and/or sleeping routine for yourself. Choose a schedule based on the hour that is not terribly affected by changing business or travel needs. For me, a consistent eating routine has been the key to increasing my activity and efficiency at work, no matter where I am. I practice intermittent fasting (IF), an eating style that for me involves fasting most of the day and eating over a shorter period of time. There are many ways to practice intermittent fasting, but they all help establish a consistent eating schedule, along with the corresponding digestion/repair period. You may gravitate toward a completely different eating rhythm, or perhaps you need a more predictable sleep schedule. Whatever the case, I highly recommend establishing a consistent, precisely defined routine around the clock to ensure your basic health needs are met. This can have a huge impact on your physical energy and overall mental health throughout the week.

3. Fuel your body.

Finally, I found that it is not only important when I am eating; what or what I eat equally important. Most of us realize that eating junk food isn’t ultimately the best fuel for a day in the office, but there isn’t always time to prepare a long meal. so, what are you doing? I have found that, like a fixed schedule, a predictable, nutritious diet is critical to my daily productivity. There are many types of diets to consider, but as with exercise, the most important factor is finding an eating plan. sustainable is yours. I, for example, feel my best from following a vegan keto diet (low carb, high fat) and have found it totally feasible with my schedule. I keep a cupboard full of keto-friendly snacks, like nuts, berries, cheese, and a few life-saving organic vegan protein bars to get the afternoon off. I know that if my success depended on multi-step, labor-intensive meals, I would never stick to them. Having a few quick, nutrient-rich snack options available keeps my energy going throughout a busy meeting schedule.

Prioritizing a healthy eating plan may require some preliminary research, but once you have an idea of ​​the foods you should be consuming and stock up on some nutritious options, you are likely to find the key to an easy-to-implement diet with many benefits for your efficiency and strength.


You might assume that diet, exercise, and a strong daily structure do not directly contribute to the success of your business, but I have found that they play an unequivocally important role. Thanks to these three lifestyle practices, you are now a more effective and efficient leader. I also know I take care of my own wellness needs, something that is often overlooked in the fast-paced, tireless world of the entrepreneur. More attention must be paid to the health of entrepreneurship if we hope to stay long enough to see our impact. By sticking to daily movement and some strategic structure around your eating and sleeping choices, you can increase your daily productivity (and possibly extend lifespan!).
