Eric Adams Promises Bitcoin and Crypto
New York City Mayor-elect Eric Adams said he wants to turn New York City into a crypto-friendly city and will also get his first three salaries in bitcoin.
In response to a tweet from Miami Mayor Francis Saures that he will be taking 100% of his next salary in bitcoin, Adams wrote: “In New York we always make big money, so I will get my first three bitcoins when I become mayor.” He added, “New York City will be the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing innovative industries.”
Many people on Twitter find Adams’ statement very optimistic. At the time of writing, his tweet has been liked 14.1k times and retweeted 2,906 times. Many simply tweeted “Rise” in response. “I love New York,” wrote Mike Novogratz, CEO of Galaxy Digital.
Angel investor Balaji Srinivasan tweeted:
Embarrassed. With the green light from the mayor, we may allow any city employee to take some of their BTC salaries. And abolish Bitlicense to make New York City more competitive on the Web 3.
Adams also launched a “friendly rivalry” with Mayor Suarez, who is trying hard to turn Miami into the center of bitcoin in the United States and the world. Suarez was also re-elected mayor of Miami.
In an interview with Bloomberg Wednesday, New York City’s mayor-elect explained that Suarez “has Miamicoin that does very well.” “We will look at the direction to implement this,” he added. Adams further promised to “look at what is preventing the growth of bitcoin and cryptocurrency in our city.”
In June, Adams made a promise to his supporters: “In one year, one year, you will see a different city… We will bring business here. We will become the center of life sciences, the center of cybersecurity, the center of self-driving cars, drones, and the center of bitcoin.” We will be the center of all technology.”
