North Carolina Business Communication Systems (BCS of NC), headquartered in New Bern, North Carolina, has been providing IT, security, voice and data cabling and telephone installation services to the local community since 1999. IT Director Chichu Van Barneveld, now one of the company’s owners, has joined BCS of NC with the goal of transitioning to a managed services model, with RMM playing a big role in that.
“When I joined the company, I saw an opportunity to move the company to a managed services model and offer customized security solutions to doctors’ offices, clinics and hospitals, as well as police and mayor offices in the community. These vertical markets weren’t well served,” he explains. “With my experience, we have been able to build expertise in these vertical markets and differentiate our services. This has also helped us build strong personal relationships with our clients.”
Barracuda RMM automation reduces workload
Tchitchu switched to Barracuda RMM to save costs and gain more functionality.
“The Barracuda RMM platform delivers a lot of efficiencies with its automation capabilities and has made life so much easier for our team,” says Tchitchu. “I can write custom scripts and push them via RMM very easily to automate our security services. For example, if a healthcare clinic needs to perform an upgrade of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) application, a 300MB file may have to be deployed on 40 devices. During Barracuda RMM, I can write script and automatically push it through RMM and have it done within 10 minutes.”
On-site device managers at Barracuda RMM are also an advantage. Tchitchu adds, “By installing an on-site device manager at each site, we can instantly get an image of the client’s network and deploy everything remotely automatically and very quickly. This has been a great tool.”
Barracuda RMM limits downtime after a disaster
Using the automation and remote support capabilities of Barracuda RMM, BCS of NC raised efficiency by more than 40 percent and increased cost savings by eliminating on-site support. The team also added seven managed security agents to its client base.
The real benefit became clear when Hurricane Michael hit the North Carolina coast in October 2018, devastating the New Bern community.
“Each of our customers has been out for at least five days and 95 percent of healthcare clinics, government offices, and other businesses remain closed. Using Barracuda RMM, we were able to quickly assess network and device status across our customer base and begin reconnecting to the Internet. Our account manager was with us at every turn. A step on the way.”
